Marsha Lewis

Executive Board

Marsha A. Lewis has dedicated over 29 years to the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD), beginning her journey as a college junior working at the district's camp in 1993. She officially joined the district full-time in 1995 and has since served in a variety of roles, including classroom teacher, instructional specialist, and assistant principal. She was named an assistant principal during the 2018–19 school year and returned to a district-level leadership role in 2021 as the K–12 Curriculum Leader for the Office of Social Studies.

Throughout her career, Marsha has championed collaboration as the foundation for student and teacher success. She believes in the power of strong partnerships with families and community organizations to enrich both academic experiences and civic engagement. Her work centers around joyful learning, policy development, and celebrating excellence in education.

Marsha’s teaching philosophy—“I believe the children are the future, and that each child has the right to the best educational experience filled with critical thinking, questioning, and discovery”—reflects her unwavering passion for education. She actively serves on educational boards and works alongside fellow social studies leaders to promote innovative, inclusive practices.

A lifelong learner and reflective leader, Marsha uses her nearly three decades of experience to continually grow and lead with purpose, always striving to leave her community better than she found it.
