Dr. Edgar Pratt began his journey with Detroit Public Schools in 1991. In 1991, he officially
launched his career as a Coop student in the Area F Office and served as a student
substitute at Bellevue Elementary School. His passion for education and dedication to
student success propelled him into leadership roles early in his career.
In 1996, Dr. Pratt transitioned into administration, beginning as an Education Coordinator.
He went on to serve in various administrative roles and later became a principal at a
charter school. In 2018, he returned to Detroit Public Schools, accepting a position as a
School Culture Facilitator. His leadership and commitment were soon recognized, and he
was selected to serve as the Dean at Breithaupt Career and Technical Center.
A proud Detroit native, Dr. Pratt is a product of the Detroit Public Schools system. He
attended elementary school within the district and is a graduate of Martin Luther King Jr.
Senior High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education
with a minor in English from Rochester College (now Rochester University) in Michigan.
After several years of teaching in charter schools, Dr. Pratt pursued further education at
Concordia University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. He
also received a K–12 Education Administration endorsement, which broadened his
understanding of school leadership and instructional strategies. Dr. Pratt strongly believes
that literacy is the cornerstone of academic success, and this belief continues to guide his
work with students and staff.
In his free time, Dr. Pratt enjoys participating in community service projects, walking,
fishing, reading, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
