AFSA delegates played an active role at the 30th AFL-CIO Constitutional Convention, joining representatives from the federation's 65 affiliated unions in adopting a sweeping five-year agenda designed to strengthen worker power, expand union organizing, and protect democracy.
Throughout the convention, AFSA delegates participated in meetings, floor debates, and convention business that culminated in the unanimous adoption of resolutions outlining the AFL-CIO's priorities for the next five years. The agenda serves as both a policy roadmap and a strategic plan for the labor movement.
Among its major commitments, the AFL-CIO pledged to organize at least 2 million new union members over the next five years, double the organizing goals established at the previous convention. The federation also committed to expanding coordinated organizing campaigns, supporting passage of the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act and the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act, and aligning bargaining strategies across unions to strengthen collective action.
Looking toward the 2026 elections, delegates approved plans to mobilize 16 million union voters and train 50,000 election protection volunteers to help safeguard voting rights and encourage civic participation among working people.
AFSA joined labor leaders from across the country in supporting a broad agenda focused on protecting workers' rights, strengthening collective bargaining, defending public services, and ensuring that technological advances—including artificial intelligence—benefit working people rather than undermine their jobs or workplace rights.
The adopted resolutions call for:
Expanding union organizing and collective bargaining rights.
Strengthening federal, state, and local labor laws.
Protecting Social Security, pensions, and disability benefits.
Raising wages and improving workplace benefits.
Supporting investments that create good union jobs in manufacturing, infrastructure, education, and energy.
Defending workplace safety standards and strengthening enforcement agencies.
Protecting the rights of immigrant workers and advancing equal opportunity in the workplace.
Promoting voting rights, fair elections, and democratic participation.
Ensuring workers have a voice in the development and implementation of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Holding corporations accountable for respecting workers' rights throughout their global supply chains.
The convention also adopted resolutions addressing health care, retirement security, economic fairness, public-sector collective bargaining, veterans' services, and international labor solidarity.
The AFL-CIO's newly adopted agenda reflects a commitment to building stronger unions, expanding organizing efforts, defending workers' rights, and creating an economy that delivers greater opportunity and security for working families.
