Carl Hankins is the Vice President of OSAS and is currently assigned to Nolan Elementary School. He is the Dean of Climate and Culture and is responsible for creating and establishing a great learning environment for Nolan students. Mr. Hankins has been employed by Detroit Public Schools Community District for 30 years. He served as a classroom teacher for 18 of those years at various High Schools and Middle Schools. Most notably, Northwestern, Southeastern, DSA and Pershing High Schools. He has also served at Brooks Middle School, Brenda Scott Middle School, and Spain Elementary/Middle School. He has also served as an Assistant Principal for 8 years from 2010-2018 before taking his current position. Additionally, Mr. Hankins was a football and baseball coach for the district for 18 years and served as Head Coach on both Southeastern and Pershing football teams.
Mr. Hankins attended N.C. State University in Raleigh, N.C. where he played football and baseball and graduated from St. Augustine’s College, an HBCU also located in Raleigh. He holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Education Administration and is working towards his Doctorate. Mr. Hankins has been married to his wife Bernetta for 33 years and they have three children, the oldest is an Art Teacher in Detroit Public Schools..
